Candace Sayles

Psychology

My journey as a psychologist began in the field of addictions, where I developed a strong understanding of the complexities of behaviour, coping, and the many ways people respond to difficult experiences. Over the years, my practice naturally evolved into a trauma-focused approach, including working with individuals who have experienced sexual and domestic violence, supporting veterans, and helping clients navigate the lasting impact of trauma.

As my experience has grown, so has the scope of my practice. I now work with individuals, couples, and families, with a particular passion for supporting new mothers and parents through the transition into parenthood. Having begun my own family and raised three children, I have developed a personal appreciation for the challenges that come with building a family—the changes in identity, relationships, expectations, and the constant balancing of caring for others while trying not to lose yourself in the process.

I believe strongly in the importance of self-care, family wellness, resilience, and a growth mindset. Life does not come with a handbook, and sometimes the seasons that challenge us the most are also the ones that offer the greatest opportunity for growth.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and honest. I work with clients who are motivated to understand themselves, make meaningful changes, and take an active role in their own healing. I am here to offer guidance, encouragement, and validation—but I also believe that meaningful growth requires accountability. I am not here simply to tell you that you are right or validate every choice you have made. Sometimes, the most helpful work involves looking honestly at our own patterns, taking responsibility for our part, challenging our thinking, and recognizing where we have an opportunity to grow.

My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed care, strengths-based practice, positive psychology, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I believe there is no single approach that works for everyone, and I tailor my work to the individual, couple, or family sitting in front of me.

Most importantly, I believe your story matters. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, respected, and supported while also feeling empowered to move forward. Whether you are healing from past experiences, navigating a relationship, adjusting to parenthood, or simply recognizing that something in your life needs to change, I am here to walk alongside you—not to tell you who to be, but to help you become the person you want to be.
